MMS IS HIRING!

Are you an incredible piano & voice teacher?

If so, we have an amazing opportunity for you!

McAllister Music Studio, SF's premier music school, is looking to add our next amazing Piano & Voice Teacher to our team of already amazing teachers and staff. MMS currently operates online and in our studio in the Mission District of San Francisco. MMS began in 2008 with one teacher and one studio and now is proud to have 9 teachers teaching from 7 different studios in SF and across the country.

Our physical studio hosts 3 teaching rooms, each equipped with beautiful upright pianos, a Fender Rhodes, a state of the art recording studio, and a performance venue.

Our online school began in 2020 and is currently accommodating over 100 students, from ages 4 all the way up. Online lessons are taught from the teacher’s home studios, as well as from our studio in the Mission District. Each teacher at MMS receives MMS branded décor as well as two camera angles so students can view their lesson from the side and also from the top down directly looking at their teacher’s hands.

This position is for an in-person teacher in San Francisco with possible occasional remote lessons offered.

We are looking for THE BEST piano/voice teachers to join our already rockin’ team of teachers and students. Positions generally begin part time and can grow into full time positions for the right teacher.

This is an incredible opportunity for pianists, singers, &  singer songwriters. We need teachers who can work with students as young as 4 and all the way up. We have a vibrant community of real musicians, musicians that understand the foundations of music, music theory, notation, and apply that directly to the style of music they are most interested in. MMS students are local singer songwriters, jazz musicians, improvisers, classical musicians, producers, engineers, and artists of all styles and genres.

At MMS, we teach the fundamentals and then give students the opportunity to write their own music, record in our in-house recording studio and perform live in our performance venue. We have several open mics, community outreach performances, master classes, and recitals during the year that occur at our studio as well as in local SF venues including Bottom of the Hill, Hotel Utah Saloon, and Noe Valley Ministry. These events give our students and teachers the opportunity to perform, meet other musicians, collaborate, and share music together in our beautiful city.

Our online school also hosts multiple online events during the year, including open mics, recitals, and master classes. The online events have proven to be a huge success and are a wonderful way to keep our community connected.

ABOUT MMS

Our specialty is in teaching music in both a traditional style (understanding music theory, reading music, learning proper technique, etc) and in a more "pop" style (understanding chord progressions, playing by ear, playing jazz, funk, pop, rock, etc). Songwriting, improvisation, and creativity also have a very strong emphasis. Through a very high level of expertise and experience, we teach our students to play the music they love and to have fun doing it!

ABOUT YOU

We are looking primarily for piano/voice teachers  (meaning you can teach BOTH piano & voice) with experience in private lesson teaching. At this time, we are not in need of music production only teachers, however if you have skills in Music Production, this is a bonus.

We are looking for teachers who LOVE teaching and can teach in a similar style, keeping music relevant to all students by letting them learn in a genre that is most interesting to them and drawing the parallels between the great classics and modern music. You will be working with many different students each day so a true passion for people, a servant's attitude, and a desire to share joy through music is everything in this job.

Please read our WHO WE ARE page to see if you are the right fit for this job.

THE JOB

You will be teaching private lessons to a range of children to adults, so having good social skills, being pleasant, encouraging, on time, responsible, and easy to work with is of utmost importance. Lessons will occur both in person at our Mission location and possibly online via Zoom when needed. Applicants should be prepared to teach in both scenarios.

Minimum requirement is 2 days a week, 6.5 hrs a day, with a 30 min break built in. Our greatest demand is for lessons between 3 - 9:30 pm Mon - Fri.

This is NOT a position that acts as a stepping stone for musicians on their way to becoming performers, this is a job for music educators who feel excited about sharing the power of music with students of all ages. If you have aspirations for something “greater” and you see teaching as a side job to get you there, please do not apply. We are here to serve our community and that requires a teacher’s heart.

One shift is available immediately with the opportunity to grow into a full time position.

Initial contract through May of 2024 with opportunity to extend.
