One of the amazing benefits of online lessons is the ability to travel & take lessons from anywhere. Simply bring your digital keyboard & device with you. OR if you can’t bring your full keyboard, here’s our recommendations for some lightweight gear and technology you could use instead!
Travel Keyboards with Internal Speakers

(MMS PICK) : NikoMaku Portable 88 Key Keyboard - This 88 key keyboard literally folds in half, weighs 9 lbs, has touch sensitive keys, a headphone jack, a sheet music stand, and standard key size - pretty amazing for a travel keyboard!

Midi Controller Keyboards for use with Laptops or Desktops
NOTE: These controllers require some Tech Saavy aka they do NOT make sound independently, so it will require you to connect to your computer and download a free version of Ableton or some other DAW

GEAR SPECIFICATIONS :
-If you plan to use Garageband (free with iphones, ipads and macbooks), you will need 2 devices to connect to both Garageband and Zoom simultaneously. Phone & tablet, phone & laptop, tablet & laptop - any 2 devices will work!
-If you have only an Ipad or tablet (no computer), you will not be able to download a DAW and will need to use Garageband with your Midi Controller. In this case, you will need to have 2 devices to access both Garageband and Zoom simultaneously. Phone & tablet, 2 phones, or 2 tablets - any 2 devices will work! This adapter will allow you to connect any controller (like the ones above) to your ipad for use with Garage band (which comes free with your ipad or laptop)

If you want to connect your keyboard or controller AND a microphone, try this Scarlett 2 channel interface.
NO GEAR? NO PROBLEM!
If you absolutely can’t bring any equipment with you, consider learning music theory, ear training, or singing while you are traveling. Discuss with your teacher ahead of time or reach out to us to inquire ahead of time and make a game plan. You’ll be amazed at how many ways your teachers can pivot and what other things you can explore together if you need to be away from your instrument.
